Hands-on XML Within the e-GIF

  e-GIF Accreditation Logo

The UK e-Government Interoperability Framework (e-GIF) mandates XML as the primary standard for data integration and data management for all public sector systems. It is therefore vital for all those involved in UK public sector ICT to have an understanding both of XML and of the way it is used in the public sector. With the e-GIF accreditation and certification schemes, this is becoming even more important. This course helps provide that understanding through a combination of lectures and hands-on practice in a small class and counts towards the learners' competence points within the e-GIF SkillsTracker.

Pre-requisites: This is a technical course and assumes some technical knowledge. Familiarity with either HTML or XML is useful.

Who should attend

This course is aimed at Project managers and implementers within the public sector and suppliers to the public sector.

What you will learn

This is very much a "hands-on" course. As well as learning about XML, namespaces in XML, schemas, XPath and stylesheets, you will practice using all of these. Various modules are available for the fourth day and new modules can be developed (often free of charge). Typically, three are chosen, but fewer can be used and more exercises undertaken earlier in the course.

Typical Course Outline:

Day 1

Day 2

Day 3

Day 4
